This seemed to be one of the more boring tasks in the challenge as I really enjoy physically organising my hoards of stuff and being able to actually see a change. Tidying up my digital life just didn't seem to promise the same satisfying feeling of accomplishment. Furthermore, I wasn't entirely sure what was expected of a 'digital declutter', my interpretation was to review my online presence and all the random files I had accumulated on my computer and phone.
I started with emails. I hate to admit but I am one of those deplorable people who are quite content spending everyday looking at that red beacon of disorganisation that is the hundreds of emails that have gone unread. Along the way I also unsubscribed from tens of useless newsletters that I had no intention of ever reading.
On my phone I deleted or updated apps. Backed up and deleted photos and freed up more storage. On my computer I backed up, deleted and reorganised my files. Online it was a case of deleting or updating my accounts. All in all it was just a case of streamlining and cleaning up my digital presence.
Boring? Moderately. Necessary? Definitely, once in a while.
