There's nothing like jumping in at the deep end, so for the first day of the 30 day minimalism challenge I had to stay offline...all day! Initially this didn't seem so daunting to me because I didn't think I spent too much time online. I'm not particularly glued to my phone 24/7. However, because I live in a different country to most of my friends and family I am very reliant on Facebook etc. for keeping in touch. Plus the fact that I am a complete Instagram addict.

It was typical that the day of the challenge I was completely unprepared. I had a long trip back to Stockholm and I had just had finished the book I was reading. Sitting in silence with my own thoughts for 4 hours was the only option *sweats profusely*.

I must admit that I cheated a little and didn't go offline completely, some Spotify and WhatsApp use did happen but that doesn't really count, right? Other than that, I didn't do so bad.

One thing I did notice about being offline was how productive I was. I finally (and somewhat begrudgingly) got around to doing chores that I had been putting off for far too long. Another thing I realised is how much I do actually rely on being online. Nowadays almost our whole lives are online, especially here in Sweden where we try to avoid actual human contact as much as possible.

So is this really a viable way of living? In short, no, not in 2016. However, having one day offline each week can be really beneficial and is now going to be one of my goals for the year.
